OPPORTUNITY:

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The department of English in Arts & Commerce college. soygaon is established in 2003. Whether students want to become a writer, teacher or expert multi-media communicator, majoring in Arts & Commerce College. soygaon will open many doors to the students future – one’s students may not have even considered yet. In literature classes students will be challenged to consider matters of broad human significance. In creative writing exposition & journalism classes students will develop their talent for expressing ideas & emotion.
The English language & literature course in our college is one of the broadest spheres giving students the chance to study writing in English from its origins in Anglo-Saxon England to the present. As well as British literature, students can study works written in English from other parts of the world & some originally written in other languages, allowing students to think about literature in English in multilingual & global contexts across time. The course allows students considerable degree of choice, both in developing students’ personal interests across core paper.
Studying literature at our college involves the development of sophisticated reading skills & of an ability to place literary text in their wider intellectual & historical context. It also requires students to consider the critical processes by which student analyze & judge to learn about literary criticism, theory & to study the development of the English language.
In first year, students will be introduced to the conceptual & technical tools used in the study of language & literature. At the same time to acquaint students to the basics of phonology of English & to enhance the job potential of students by improving their language skills.
In the second-year students will be able to extend their study by familiarizing with the various components of language to enhance their awareness regarding aesthetics of Drama & Poetry independently. These papers are assessed by Choice –based credit system – 70: 30 patterns.
Alternatively in the third-year students will be able to keep pace with the age of technology& to empower the learners for the present as well as the student by studying & appreciating novel can develop their interpretative abilities & enhance their analytical skills at the same time students will be able to aware about the basics of literary criticism & the age wise important critical concepts.
